Background Sampling Auto Detect Background

Precise Broad
Higher tolerance removes a wider range of colors as background. At 0, only pixels that exactly match the sampled background color are removed.
Tolerance is high and may remove subject edges. Consider lowering it.
None Strong
Reduces jagged and hard edges without changing the subject area.

Expand Contract
Positive values contract the subject edge inward to remove white or dark halos; negative values restore fine edges that were removed accidentally; 0 leaves the edge unchanged.

Choose Background Color
Changing the background only changes the composite result; it does not remove the background again.

The tool analyzes colors around the image edges, estimates the background, and removes connected areas with similar colors. It is designed for solid or simple backgrounds rather than AI-based semantic segmentation.

How Background Removal Works

  • The tool samples colors around the image edges to estimate the background.
  • Connected color areas that diffuse from the edges are treated as background and made transparent.
  • Enclosed background areas can also be removed when they are connected to the detected background.
  • Edge feathering helps create smoother boundaries.
  • Original-color halos around the subject can be reduced through edge repair.
  • The method works best with solid or simple backgrounds and may be less effective for complex scenes.

Five Cutout Modes

  • Smart: Automatically analyzes the image background.
  • Solid Background: Designed for images with a relatively uniform background color.
  • Portrait: Suitable for person-oriented images.
  • Product: Suitable for product images.
  • Logo: Suitable for logos and icons.

Background Sampling and Parameters

  • Click the background in the original image view to sample a background color, or restore automatic detection.
  • Tolerance: 0–60. Higher values remove a wider range of similar colors.
  • Edge smoothing: 0–5 for adjusting edge softness.
  • Edge repair: Shrink or expand the detected subject edge to improve the result.
  • After adjusting a slider, processing starts automatically when the slider is released.

Preview and Background Options

  • Compare the original image and cutout result, or use the draggable split view.
  • Set the output background to transparent, white, black, or a custom color.
  • A checkerboard pattern indicates transparent areas.
  • Changing the background only changes the composition and does not require the cutout process to run again.

Export Options

  • PNG supports transparent backgrounds.
  • JPG does not support transparency and fills transparent areas with the current background color.
  • WebP supports transparent backgrounds.

Errors and FAQ

  • If no background is removed, adjust the tolerance or use manual background sampling.
  • If no suitable subject is detected, replace the image with a clearer source.
  • Images larger than 25MP are automatically downscaled to reduce browser memory usage.
  • If WebP export is unavailable, use PNG as an alternative.
