The last digit of an 18-digit ID number is the check digit. It is calculated from the first 17 digits according to the ISO 7064:1983 MOD 11-2 rule. This tool recalculates the check digit and compares it with the final character in the ID number.
During verification, the first 17 digits are weighted and calculated to obtain the corresponding check character. The check character may be a digit from 0 to 9 or the letter X. Check digit verification can detect some input errors, missing digits or number combinations that do not comply with the rules.
